Reasonable amount to charge for shipping for hatching eggs??

I charge for actual shipping with confirmation AND the cost of packaging. Delivery confirmation is not free. Bubble wrap is not free most of the time. Postal rates for priority mail goes up this month and with it my shipping costs. Keep in mind no one is going to sell you eggs and ship them to you for a loss. When the shipping rates go up my shipping fee will be $15 - this is packing material, postage and confirmation.

You can get a flat rate priority box from the post office for free and the shipping rate it $9.80. Then you have to account for your packing materials/tape, which will run you a few dollars at most. I personally wouldn't charge more than $13 for shipping. I think that is more than enough.

Edited to add -I didn't realize that shipping rates will be going up again this month like MissP just pointed out. Of course!

In that case, then yes, $15 would be the reasonable amount to charge.

It depends on the effort one puts into packing the eggs. We charge $16 for shipping a dozen eggs. For that we use a #7 shipping box.

2 layers of large bubble wrap on the bottom
each egg wrapped in a 12 by 12 inch sheet of small bubble wrap
stryofoam packing peanuts under/over/around the eggs
2 layers of large bubble wrap on top

We have to buy our packing materials but it's needed to get the eggs to the buyer in one piece and that will hatch.

We have bought eggs that came in egg cartons, wrapped in newspaper etc etc etc and breakage is high and hatch rate low.

My work gets a good bit of bubble wrap and the guys save it all for me, I have maybe 19 trash bags full in the upstairs bedroom now and a guy I work with had I think 30 trash bags of peanuts he gave me, I consider myself lucky that I dont have to buy all of that, so I give the guys a few doz of eggs now and then to Thank them for saving me the stuff. Ive gotten sheets of bubble wrap as big as my car is and I drive a big ol fleetwood caddy. I had the trunk and the back seat filled up one day. If you all didnt live so far away, I would gladly give you all some. ...............

Has anyone tried using eggflats like the kind restaurants get when the get multiple dozens?? I was thinking about using them because they cover the top and bottom and using some styrofoam on the top and bottom to hold them in the middle. Do you think this would work?
