REASONS TO GET QUAIL

I want so badly to get a few quail. I have a pen already built and I need some reasons that will help me in asking my parents for QUAIL. I already told my mom that I will buy them and that their eggs get about 5$ for eating.She said this---- "Well who eats quail eggs? They are too small" Then she left for work. Well anyone eat eggs from Quail?? What do they taste like?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

many people eat quail eggs, they are used in high class resturants, and in sushi too!

the other day i fried a coturnix egg (because it was cracked hwen i collected it) it was delicious!!!! Way sweeter than a chicken egg.

For comical purposes i took a picture of the tiny fired egg by my fork lol:

you can also boil and then pickle them

and you mean like $5 per a dozen right? Not $5 per eggie or those would be some expensive eggs hahah!

I have not eaten quail eggs or meat yet, but they are both considered a delicacy. Plus quail eat less feed per pound of egg layed than chickens do, so they are more ecenomical. You could make $$ off the eggs for hatching eggs as well, and I'm sure you would have many customers wanting the birds for their meat as well.

yeah i mean 5$ a dozen. I could make $1,000,000 easily if they were 5$ each egg...lol I am only looking to get maybe 8-10 quail.

Those eight hens a day (in laying season which is march through sept-october mainly) for a week will give you : 56 eggs so just imagine the possiblities hatching eggs and eating eggs just like Shelley mentioned!

OK, so, this is what I don't get.

Five quail eggs is equivalent to 1 chicken egg... so 5 dollars a dozen is like $25 a dozen for eggs to eat?!? What is wrong with people?

No they are 5 times smaller so they are 5 times as much. lol idk for sure.

I have just hatched 9, and we have them in a big fish tank in the living room right now, they are so cute! I love the little squeeky chirps (sounds like a cricket or a squeeky wheel), and they are high entertainment. lol

If it sales what's the big deal

On my site I have $18 for 20 eggs. that's what i feel is reasonable for me, (how much i've put into them feed and care and housing wise) as well as the fact that I am selectively breeding them.

As I've said before, commertial breeders can afford to sell at low costs, small hobby breeders can't unless they don't mind losing out.

edited to add, I paid something like $25 for a pair of WILD colored button quail...most bird people think that's an outrageous price but i was willing to pay it to get started in button quail.

I paid $5 for 10 button quail eggs on the same day....and they were for hatching...I was willing to pay it and if theres a demand people will buy them at whatever price they can find them the cheapest or the closest in location to them. All you can do with Button quail is hatch them for pets and they are much more expensive than coturnix who have much more uses.

edited again to add, that those 10 button quail eggs i bougth for $5, only one hatched... so that's a $5 dollar button quail...im lucky she turned out to bea hen! LOL and a rare color to top it off

ohh ~ I wish quail chicks could be mailed. I just can't seem to get a bator for a cheap enough price to justify it to my husband. Does anyone know if you can buy already laying quail? (well, and roo, too.)
