Recalling ALL roman shades and mini blinds

I hear all homes will soon revert back to the use of outhouses, and all toilets will be removed, because a child could fall into the toilet and drown. I also hear said outhouses will be required to be fenced with no less than 8' of unclimbable fencing material...

as long as the outhouses are heated.. I am ok with that... trying to go #2 in -30 deg C weather is not my idea of fun

Why can't they just attach a warning label to all those shades about the potential hazard to children? Homes without children can choose to use them, if they want. i don't have children but i do have cats. So i've always been careful to snip the ends of the blind pull-strings so they don't loop.

i think getting the word out about the danger is a very good thing. i feel badly for anyone who has lost a child to the danger. But what tends to happen in cases like this is that it turns into a big "sue you, sue me" situation. People get angry and want someone to pay for their loss, when it truly is the responsibility of the parents to child-proof their house, not every single manufacturer of every single product.

i don't know . . . . . . . .

See.... all these people who have mini blinds and kids.... well they should have had cats for a bit first, my cats. There are NO mini blinds in my house because they get EATEN by my cats, it's cheaper not to have them. I have regular fabric curtains, I made them myself, on every window and have had them for well over 10 years with NO complaints. Easy to clean, don't have to buy a special 5 fingered duster thingy for them and I can change them out without a big freaking deal. I do have heat blocking vertical blinds in the windows of the living room but that's it and they still have fabric curtains over them.

I think most of the recalls lately are because most people nowadays lack common sense. Not to offend anyone but seriously, foam bumpers on every corner in the house?

Well this comment is not about the afore mentioned mini blind recall but it is about common sense so I couldn't resist adding. My mother received a recall on a bathrobe! While this does conjure up entertaining images of a killer bathrobe arising in the night to suddenly attack, the real reason for the recall was because apparently, if you sit very, very close to an open flame, this chenile robe may spontaneously combust! Needless to say, my mother is keeping her wonderful, soft, fluffy robe as she has no fireplace and even if she did she has enough common sense not to sit with her robe next to, or in, the flame. Although she is being nearly harrassed by the company demanding it back!

Yep about the cat thing...we had to tie the end short and hook it out of the way when one of our cats got caught up in the cord coming in the window (DH's idea to put a cat door in the window screen - oops).

pips&peeps :

I've got 17 windows with the dang things. Boy oh boy I bet the government is going to be handing out money to replace them........

Everybody get in line!

I have 23 of them in our house. Oh boy, we're gonna be rich!

I have the mini blinds, which weren't on the recall list (oddly enough) But the blinds I bought had the warning label on the bottom part of the blind. I know, because I tried "goo gone" stuff to get that yucky bright orange label that warned you about strangulation. I only use my blinds halfway on the window, and that label glared down at you. I didn't have to read it to know what it meant. I have no small children in my house, but if I did, I would cut the cord accordingly & wrap up the pull string so it wasn't available to small hands.

I've noticed that the plastic bags that come with parts of furniture you have shipped to you,(or other products) have a few holes in them, JUST IN CASE a small unsupervised child gets a hold of one, or maybe doesn't understand the print on the bag that says "not a play toy" or Mom & Dad aren't aware, has a small chance that he may survive. I only noticed this, because I was trying to be green and save all plastic bags for my kitty litter clean ups. And THOSE bags (with the holes for safety) weren't very useful when pee smelling kitty litter scattered on the floor before I could reach the outdoor garbage can.

I am so afraid of things that can wrap around my kids necks. The have never owned skipping ropes because when I was a kid a close friends little sister died because she was playing dog with one in her room. Kids house coats have sewed in straps, last year the children's place had some nice one's but they weren't sewed so I didn't buy the. Blinds are easily broken in my house for me to want them anyways.
