Recommendations for an accurate digital thermometer hygrometer??

I have been less than impressed with the digital thermometer hygrometer I ordered from incubator warehouse. It is "off" by about 2-3 degrees from my small mercury based thermometer. Can anyone tell me what you are happy with?

Me, too. My combo hygrometer/thermometer from Incubator Warehouse (the one with the probe) consistently reads in the 98 degree range, which is low compared to readings from my other thermometers. Is yours reading low?

The one that came with the incubator (which I was cautioned not to trust overly much) consistently reads about 101.

The best thermometers I have, a digital meat thermometer and a digital candy thermometer, both read about 101.2 or .3, same as the cheapy that came with the incubator. This makes it appear that the digital hygrometer/thermometer is the one that's off.

As luck would have it, my stovetop cracked the other day, and I'm waiting on the part, so I can't even boil water to check those out!!

From what I've read, the range indicated by all these different thermometers is still acceptable, but if the temps are off, the hatch could be delayed or speeded up by a day. But I'd just like to know which one(s) are right.

Is there an optimal place to position the hygrometer/thermometer in the incubator? I'm using a Hovabator Genesis 1588. That's with a fan, digital thermostat and using an egg turner.

I bought an Acu-Rite Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer (aka Humidity Monitor) from Home Depot ($9.99) and from CoopsnMore ($14.04 incl shipping). It seems pretty accurate, but the temperature doesn't have a decimal point. I have both in my incubator and an old mercury thermometer in there as well. They all read the same temperature.

I don't calibrate my hydrometer as the real test is how well the air cell is developing, or the the weight loss. I generally do dry incubating, and keep the RH about 25-35% and as such the calibration of the hydrometer is not a good use of my time. I dry incubate and add water as necessary to have the air cell devellop properly.

accurite from lowes was pretty cheap, I always use more then one, just to be safe.

For temperatures, the Brinsea spot check is the best there is. Used it last hatch. 18 of 19 hatched out at lockdown.

I personally use Extech 445815.


It is pretty decent humidity meter which I find quite accurate. It has alarm, temp, dew point, large display and remote probe. It costs around $45, so it is not the cheapest $9 model, but I am happy with it.
This site has some hygrometer reviewed and comapred, it may help with someone' research.
