Recommended Reading?

I know BYC has a ton of info on incubating and hatching, but I am wondering if there are any books out there you hatch-a-holics recommend? I can't surf at work, but books I can sneak. LOL

I will be addicted like the rest of you by March, I just need to get myself ready.

I might suggest going to Amazon.com and checking out what they have on the topic you are wanting .

I was hoping for some recommedations- as all books are not created equal. I have wasted money on books before. I went ahead and ordered:

Incubation: A Guide to Hatching and Rearing by Thear, Katie

If anyone who reads real books has a better or additional recommendation, I would appreciate it.

I have no idea on the books...I would say to print out some stuff you find on the internet, or check them out from the library first.

I know that my Storey's Guide to Chickens has a section on hatching...and that book is GREAT to have.

I think mostly (and forgive me if I am incorrect) we al just jumped in after reading about it, saying "hey I can do that"...and I am a BOOK HOUND!

I know you can't surf at work, but I can't imagine finding a book that will have near the information that this site does. And for free. Its one thing reading about how to do something, but here you get to read about peoples experiences (thousands of them!) and thats the best education there is.

and most books about animals are rubbish. they have all the wrong info. one day I'm going to write books on all types of animals, from hamsters to chickens,so that there will actually be good animal books out there.

If you are interested in bettering your breed, rearing to sell tested and healthy birds, perhaps the book of all books APA Standards (American Poultry Association book of Standards) showing what your birds feathers should look like, how to hatch for success, and what to look for while buying your breeding stock.

Anyone can breed for eggs or pets, it takes control, experience and knowledge on how to judge your birds, when to pull a bird out of your breeding program. You can look this book up online, I have been told that even an old book carries the same knowledge as the newer books. Its expensive, but perhaps you can pick one up on eBay.

Its an interesting book if you are curious on how certain judges choose certain as best of breed or disqualify others!

Its actually not that expensive, I got the soft cover edition from the APA site for $14.
