Recovery diet AFTER sour crop

Might want to keep in mind that sugars will feed any viable yeast which remain early in recovery. Once there's evidence the crop has cleared it would make sense to limit fruits or other foods like carrots having higher sugar levels for a couple days further.

Garlic water might also be beneficial for up to a week to polish off getting the yeast cleared, but keep in mind garlic will damage living probiotics the same as it does the yeast, so keep the garlic water provision separate on the clock from the living good bacteria or probiotic feeding.

We recently treated a serious sour crop on our domestic pigeon. We gave fluconazole (diflucan) 5mg/kg early am with probiotics, witheld all food but for drops of garlic water, 24 hours. As he responded, lunch time we fed with scrambled eggs, yogurt and probiotics. Evening / overnight, mild garlic water in his water bowel.

The garlic water was made by mincing ~ 1/3 -1/2 average size single clove in 1 cup of hot tap water. Mashed the garlic with a ladle handle, let stand one hour and then poured it through fine mesh tea ball screen to remove solids. It had little taste overall, very mild.

The pigeon went from serious approaching complete break down to upright and stable in 24 hours, continued rapid healing from there. He gave up nearly 3/4 of a cup of water the first night after treatment. I had no idea their crop could even hold that much water.

Best to all
Mike
