Recycled Plastic Chicken ????

Anyone have an idea how to make these recycled plastic chickens?

The body looks like trash bags, and maybe floral wire for the feet?

As cute as that is and with all the dyed bags, I would just buy it from the creative person that made it!!!

It almost reminds me of those giant flowers we made in school with crepe paper. The other thing it reminds me of is the pencil with crepe paper wrapped over it and dipped in glue and applied to paper. You could make a two sided chicken cut out and find a weather proof glue and glue the square pieces of colored platic to each side creating a little bit of a 3-D effect or stitch/glue the platic cut outs together and stuff with more plastic and then apply the plastic squares molded over a pencil and glued in place. I might just try that my self. Anyone have a chicken outline we can use?

You know the more I look at it the more I think it is like those (OK spelling error approachine) lays you get in the store but the size increases and decreases to form the body.

Ok...if you're trying to make it like a plastic lei....you need a lei needle (it's a LOOOOOONG version of a regular sewing needle...not sure if you can get them outside HI...but I'm sure you can!). Essentially what you do is take some kind of plastic 'streamer'...i would try using a plastic garbage bag....instead of cutting it into a straight strip.....make it more of a long triangle. Start at the small end and kind of like an acordian....fold it back and forth over and over again (twisting it as you go) onto the lei needle. This will create the 'full' effect. You could possibly "mold" this now somewhat body shape with some pipe cleaner thingies (you know...craft section....) to add the legs and even 'shape' the 'body'.

With regards to 'threading' the ribbon on the lei needle like using a safety pin to 'thread' elastic when sewing a pair of shorts or something. You push/pull the elastic THROUGH the 'hole' in the waistline of the shorts....like threading a needle.

Hope this helps. (I'm just guessing on how to make the chicken. But I KNOW how to make the leis!) You probably COULD use a regular sewing needle....but it'd be a LOT easier to gauge final size with a lei needle!!!

CoCoNUT ... I do have doll making needles they are about 6 inches long. That should work.

I was thinking of using graduating plastic that starts thin and gets wider.

Havi Thank you for the second site. it suggested a coat hanger bent for the frame. That should suffice nicely.

I found the plastic recycled chickens on several sites. Just so instructions.
And most sold out or wanting $20 each. A little high priced for recycled plastic if you ask me. So I'll try and see what I come up with. I have foam board I can use for the comb and beak. Floral tape to use around the wire for the feet. Even googly eyes ... they should turn out cute.

Years ago I made wreaths on coat hangers out of baggies..all I did was tie them around the hanger bent into a circle...ALOT of them for fullness and then tied on decorations, they were pretty and pretty easy and the look of them reminds me of this..given that, maybe try cutting grocery bags into fat strips like 6x9 and tie them..a whole lot of them around a small circle then add another piece of hange, a straight piece with a crooked end and tie up to the head...the legs could even have pipe cleaners wrapped around them for color, the ebak could be a bent pipe cleaner....good luck!
