Since I don't have that many I only cracked one. Yes it was fertile. However I think I now have 3 laying sporadically so I don't know if all three are fertile but hey a week in the bator will tell me that.
I have plenty of eggs. I sell them to coworkers to help pay for feed. But I don't sell them for that much
I have candled some this week and I have a few that look like they might have been infertile but at least one that had veins. I stuck a couple under my broody yesterday too. I would have waited til they were a little older but I have my incubator running already for hatching out my Orphington crosses for EE's and meat bird crosses. I have a guy that is supposed to get me some turkey eggs this week and if so I'll set this weekend and throw a couple more from that pen in. But then I'm done for now cause I don't want a bunch of different age birds. That doesn't give me that many from that pen.
Also when this hatch gets old enough I'll be caponizing some of the boys, mostly the EE boys. I want to see how the broilers grow without interference.
I might need to build a rooster pad. I have two pens and a tractor but the tractor which was part of my 'plan' is now a silkie pen thanks to my daughter and her tremendous luck scoring some free.
