Red Broilers...not impressed.

our third red broiler from this hatch just died. Thats two this week plus the one that died day of hatch on Dec 14. I don't know what is up with this group of red broilers. I have never lost young chickens like this before!

You know...all I have to say is ME TOO!!!!

I ordered the "red broiler special" from Ideal, mine didn't ship until the 28th of December however...but so far I have been HIGHLY unimpressed!

No leg issues, though the dog in her attempts to mother them smothered 4 by bathing them and moving them to the couch the first day they were here...bless her heart...she meant well....but no losses besides that...

HOWEVER...they just aren't growing for beans I swear! I mean, I knew they were gonna be different that a white broiler...but I wanted to "experiment" with them because I figured they would be a good option during the summer months....and they are NOT impressing me not one bit!

I think the barred rock "packing peanuts" that came with our ducklings last month are doing better growth wise than these red broilers! really....I mean it...

After reading through all this, I gotta say, at least I am not alone! I was starting to feel bad because I wasn't gushing over them like I have been with other things, I was REALLY let down...but now I know right?

I really think its something with this particular hatch because the red broilers from the same hatchery last summer turned out great. Hard to say what is going on!

Who knows then!
I did see they have white rock on special today. I'm trying to convince the hubby to WAIT.
Hehe

Oh and Eggs, that is sweet she at least tried. Poor chicks though!

Supermommy, what we should do is order 25 delaware chicks from a breeder (not Ideal!) and split the shipping. I am frequently in south Austin. :)

I always had good results from Ideal, and was thinking about ordering broilers but have not heard anything really good about them so I ordered more freedom rangers instead. They grew out really well for us here in NC and had very few deaths, compared to CX. But I have to say I am not thrilled and enthused. "slightly better than Cornish Cross" isnt exactly a raving review. So I was looking at the Ideal broilers but it seems like no one is very impressed. :(

Magic that would be cool. Yea poup, I think we are going to order buff rocks or something from them? I don't know, Hubby has this all planned out. We did loose 3 last ngith but that's because we got 6 1/2 inches of rain and it flooded everywhere. By time we got out to the coop after stopping the flooding in the house from getting any worse, two had been drowned and one more didn't make it through the night. But that's a nature thing, nothing to do with Ideal or the breed.
