Last night I found one of my girls. Marshmellow, sick in the coop. I thought it was dehydration/lack of food/bitter cold. I brought her in the house/warmed her up/gave food. She perked up a bit. Her eyes were bright red in color and she was unsteady on her feet. Today, eyes are still red and she is now breathing heavy. Her comb is back to normal color. I did not see her eat or drink this morning. Poop is is runny mash potato consistency, light brown in color .
Background - Last week a hawk got one of my girls. I found Marshmellow huddled in the corner of the run. I thought she was in shock. She had no injuries. Over the next few days, I noticed that she her comb was being pecked and acting disinterested. She was interested in treats. We are having bitter cold temp and the girls are cooped up. She started spending most of her time in the nesting box with her head in the corner, tilted up. Poop was normal in the nesting box.
My original thought was she was staying in the nest box to avoid being pecked. Because of this, she was not eating/drinking. She was weak and cold. I thought bringing her in/feeding her/warming her up would perk her up. The red eyes and the heavy breathing has me worried. Does anyone have any insight on what might be going on?
