My silkie roo Red he is missing feathers. I believe he was either attacked yesterday or the hens were in danger and he did his job. hes missing feathers above his tail, in his tail and from 1 wing. I found no visible wounds. I am proud of him because up till now i have doubted his abilities. I believe i didnt notice last night because i didnt know he was missing feathers because it was so late when i did my roost count. but this morning feathers everywhere from yesterday. Anyone know what might remove such large amounts of feather without successfully taking him down? the main pile is under a pretty large tree. and i figure the time must have been between 620pm and 730 pm. He had the ladies over there today and i think hes crazy for taking them back over to where he got hit by what ever.

I'm thinking hawk because it was top half, foxes generallt pounce, bite the bottom and then run off with their prey.

What a good roo!
well it is right above his tail. and then the tail and the right wing. the poor boy. im excited he is alive. ;p

will hawks com under large trees?

Yes, I had a failed hawk attack last year, he plucked my hen really good on top, otherwise no injuries.
well hawks are for the most part safe from me. land predators might just be screwed once winter starts and i can see tracks in the snow.
