I am raising a small group (5) of red jungle fowl. At just over 3 weeks first body coat of feathers coming in. Body feathers have spot at tip giving chicks a spotted pattern that obliterates body outline making them hard to see against a brown weedy back ground. None of the game strains I have reared possessed such spots.

Two of the chicks are developing slate (gray) colored legs, two are what I call green-legged and the fifth seems intermediate. Are red jungle normally so variable or is this hallmark of hybridization with a domestic breed? American games at very least can exhibit both color variations I see.

RJF are have white skin and blue legs. Green legs means yellow skin which was inherited from Grey Jungle Fowl. Most domestic fowl are descended from both Red and Grey Jungle Fowl. Tom

So my "red jungle fowl" likely have some domestic in their background. I have been reading a lot concerning the probable domestication process of our composite domesticated jungle fowl. What does not set well is that variation in domestic jungle is derived from one parental species or the other. This leaves no room for mutation. Seems like some characters attributed to grey jungle could be independently derived from mutations.
