Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

I can't help but think that your egg auction for the project would predict a favorable market for the LF colored projects once they're developed to have stable color and more Cornish type, especially among those people not in the inner circle of old time Cornish breeders. You know the Cornish people much better than I do, but I suspect they might have a negative view of introducing a new Cornish variety.......................... but lets face it, the market outside of the established breeders is much larger than that within.

Gary,
I am sorry to hear about your dad. It is nice he is able to keep some of them though.
Personally, I think we who appreciate the true Cornish should be working toward spreading the word on these beautiful birds. If you have the room, keep them going, your dad has obviously put a lot of work into his birds and it is producing some excellent results. It seems a waste to just drop the whole thing with such an investment in them.
Even if this breed does seem to be a niche, there are a growing number of people who DON'T want the freakish CRX. That is what interested me in the breed to begin with. They are THE original meat bird, and they need to be preserved.
So, add that to the fact that your dad has worked them into a very nice BLR variety and they are a hot commodity the last couple of years with the Wyandottes, so why not jump on that wagon and get this variety on it and moving them into more popularity.

If you need a place for them, I can make room

My 3 little ones from your dad's flock need some buddies. You know, birds of a feather and all.

I set 5 eggs, all were developing day 10. This hatched on day 19 and so I didn't candle the rest as I'd planned. So maybe 4 more, maybe none, I've no idea. It was a big surprise that it hatched with no problems because I dry hatch. The humidity when this dude hatched was below 50% yet no problems! I did have the temp get a bit higher than I liked at one point but wow was I ever surprised to see this thing. I will recalibrate the meter after the hatch but I never added any water at all to the incubator till after this one hatched so there's no way it could have been close to the 'right' humidity. Maybe I'll hatch out super chick LOL.

My Shamo x Sussex, just hours after hatching. If you're used to Orientals or hard-feathered fowl you can certainly see it in this chick!

Ever notice how they get the stink eye right away?

ETA pic: Does that body shape and big head mean anything? I'm thinking it'll look more Cornish than Orp but wow what a big head.

All of the other 4 quit a few days ago. No idea why. I did the float test and nothing moved so I opened the tops. Lots of development but plenty yolk still.
