Red mucus in chicken poop

Kathy, thank you, thank you. I went to feed store and they had the Corid and I will give to my babies today.
Ten chicks, thank you for your support as well
I will let you know how my one bird does that has the definite signs

How long does it take to cure the birds of this cocci? They started on the Corid yesterday. All three birds have it now.

I want this bleeding to stop for their sake. They were happy to go outside when I got home for some dirt bathing and some bug scouting. It is also a time to get to mingle with supervision of course with the other chickens that will soon be bunk mates. We have had such wet weather this summer. I have had my babies on the patio since they hatched on July 26. I have given them some outside time for the past two weeks. Which was enough time to get them sick. Will they be immune to this protozoa after the treatment?

Usually in about 24-48 hours there should be no more blood in poop. Chicks will only be immune to the specific strain of Cocci they have had exposure to. All chickens are susceptible to having an overload/outbreak of cocci at anytime. Most birds have some Coccidiosis in their sml intestines, only becomes a problem if they have an overload, they we medicate to bring it back under control.

Thank you, I'm new to all of this chicken stuff. I just started in Feb. 2013 with the school I work for. They had an Egg-u-cation in a classroom where they incubated some eggs. I fell in love with the Mille Fleur d'Uccle babies. The two I took home turned out to be roosters. My husband felt sorry for me and got me an EE and a SLW, both hens. The next month a different class did the Egg-u-cation thing and I took home three chicks from that batch. They were roosters too. Gave them away, kept the Mille Fleurs and bought an Dutch Bantam hen, an Old English Game hen, and a Golden Cuckoo Marans (with the feathered feet) hen. Then I incubated 3 local EE eggs they hatched on July 26. There you have my history. My hubby is so not doing this adding on to the orginal coop that he built. But he is a trooper and made an addition for roosters to go to.

Well- whoosh! First time chicken owner and finally got the red intestinal lining scare.

I am relieved after seeing this thread and that poop chart (pretty sure I have the same reaction as any poultry owner but thank god for that chart.)
I just got worried about that today -- googled it and got here. Very, very helpful! Sets my mind at ease.
