No, I'm not callin my chicken a RedNeck. His feathers are falling out around his neck and skin underneath looks red and irritated. Though he doesn't act sick at all. Also feathers round neck are kind of frizzled lookin. Though he's not frizzled chicken. Can chickens get mange? Husband said he lookd really good for mites and lice so we don't think its that. He used to crow constantly but has quit the worse its gotten because of way he has to move neck wen he does.

Sure sounds like mites or lice. I had a silkie with this issue, I never did see a bug but sevin dusted anyway as I knew it was a symptom. The feathers grew right back afterwards. Mange is not found in chickens as far as I know, but a mite causes mange on dogs.

I've got two Barred Rocks and two Buff Orpingtons and one of my rock hens did this. The skin was exposed on her neck and breast. I learned that the two orpingtons were pecking her feathers off and at times pecking at her skin. I think that my hens were getting bored becuase they weren't always getting their free range time due to the snow and cold. I began to change up their diet by adding some spinach, cucumbers, lettus, and squash. Also I started to let them out to run around whether it was snowy or not. I found that this would help and my rock hen has started to recover.
