Red Partridge Orpington informational hatch thread

Last night was the chicks' first night in the coop, at 8 weeks old, after spending a month mingling freely with the flock during the day. They did great! I waited until the aunties were settled down for the night, to avoid interference from them, and then put the babies on their baby roost. They cried for quite a while, poor things. I stayed with them and talked to them, thinking it would calm them down, but it actually did the opposite - they were craning their necks in the direction of my voice, in the semidarkness, looking like they were preparing to jump into my arms, so I had to leave them. They settled after a while and started making their "let's go to sleep" sound, while the aunties were making a more annoyed and urgent version of it - the "shut up and go to sleep already" sound  I'm so glad I made them a separate roost. They were squished up against the wall as far away from the hens as possible, and the hens were as far away from the chicks as possible... This was also the chicks' first time sleeping on a roost. They had one in the brooder but refused to use it, sleeping either under the heat (while it was still on), or on the floor, or on top of the MHP.

The auto door opened too early for me to see what waking up in the coop looked like, and by the time I woke up, they were already outside. All looks good though - no signs of pecking or other drama, they're all chilling in the run as usual. So I call that success! I'm so relieved. And happy I was able to finally clean up the upstairs hallway :D

Something's happening with my notifications, too, and I'm missing updates on threads, too...
I used to get alerts on threads I watched so I would see, when I came on, what threads to check. That changed a number of weeks ago. Now I have to go to my watched threads first, and the more I interact with them, the more alerts I get (to that particular thread). Which makes no sense to me! If I am actively ON a thread, why do I need an alert that someone just replied to it? I can SEE that they did! :barnie What I need is alerts to threads I might be missing! :he

Why have I stopped getting notifications for this thread? :barnie

I just use the 'watched threads' page, have it saved as a favorite on my browser.
Refreshing it brings the threads with new posts up to the top.
It's the main navigation tool I use here.
Alerts are a PITA, IMO...and email notifications even worse.

Alerts are certainly annoying when there's a thread I've posted to only once, to give advice, and then I'm done with, but it keeps alerting me over and over whenever somebody else posts... It does feel like the logic has changed though, somehow. It used to drop threads where my involvement was one-and-done, and only alert me to threads I interact more with. Now I get alerts to threads I no longer follow, or miss development on threads I do post to more frequently. Seems like others are noticing a change, too. I guess I'll start deliberately checking the watched threads page as well. I was just lazy and waiting for the alerts to do it for me  As for email notifications, those are the WORST and I can't make them stop!!! I've unchecked everything there is to be unchecked on my account preferences, but the emails keep coming  At least they go to an email address I don't use often, so I don't have to look at them piling up.

They have conquered every corner of the premises, including the big girls’ stronghold and favorite hangout spot - the log climber I broke a toe building last year 😁 The babies look happy and at home. This has been such a peaceful and easy integration, I can’t believe it! I’m so glad I didn’t have to cut a second pop door into the coop and do all the other invasive partitioning I was planning to do for integration. My birds are awesome 🧡

They are aweskme! I'm glad they are three different colors so we can tell them apart. I'm enjoying this journal!
Aww I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it. Sometimes I wonder if it’s too wordy and if anybody bothers reading all that. But it makes for a nice story to go back and read and remember the adventures of my chicks’ childhood 😄
