This is my first time owning chickens. I went to the dreaded tractor supply and bought what they had labeled as "pullets". No one in the store had a clue what breeds they had. But seeing the $1.00 each price tag I bought 10, thinking what the heck... 1 in 10 chance there's a rooster. Well the older they get the more worried I get... from the research I've down they look like a columbian black tail or red ranger but I'm noticing that out of the 9 left it only looks like I have 3 hens, the other six have or are starting to get big red combs. The 3 I believe are hens barely have a comb and they are still yellow. I'm having a hard time finding any info about this breed. Any info is welcomed. Needless to say I'll never buy from tractor supply again .

That's what I'm trying to find out. According to the breed info on this site they also can lay over 300 eggs per year. In my opinion that would kinda make them a dual purpose breed... has anyone ever kept the for laying and how did they do? Do they have any problems associated with other meat birds? I am planing on culling all but the most docile rooster at around 10-14 weeks (depending on my work schedule). That will leave me 3 hens that I'm sure are hens and a rooster. Plus I also have 5 easter eggers that I bought as pullets also. Next year or the week following the culling I plan on getting 2 white leghorns and 2 copper marans. Should make for a colorful assortment of eggs.
