Meet Goldie . Cyndi and Mardi's first chick , and only one to hatch from 6 eggs that Susan the broody incubated. DOB , 29.5.18 . Goldie has black silkie skin , with 5 toes on one foot and 4 on the other , like mum , with a single comb like dad. I'm looking forward to Goldies human sending me an update in a few weeks once feathers come in and we see if it's got Frizzle , silkie or Smooth features #babychickens

Would you call this gold or silver ?

It looks Silver to me, though it could be the lighting. If it's as yellow as it looks, Silver. Your sex-link theory may have played out

I haven't seen it in person , but here are two more that hatched under a different broody. They are more brown then anything .

The silver/gold thing works regardless of pattern genes etc, however can be difficult to see in many cases. For example, a fully black chick is still silver or gold, you just won't be able to tell.

Silver/gold/silver ? The first two in the left are the previous chicks and the one on the right is the third egg that decided to hatch on Monday, the other two hatched Friday

That looks about right to me, though the brown in that chick could be caused by other genes. Lovely chicks!
