Anyone have any ideas as to why my one hen has a red bum? She isn't egg bound. She lays about one egg every other day. Though, it is odd shaded, being a little longer & a little more pointy than the other eggs. I've put Vetericyn on it every day for about 2 weeks with no change. She's a little over a year old, & it's been like this for a few months. She free ranged during the day with the others on quite a few acres. Locked up every night. They get lay pellets & lay crumbles. For daily treats they get a mix of BOSS, sunflower meaties, & scratch mix every night to get them in. They'll get yogurt (plain), watermelon, grapes, tomatoes, mealworms, etc on occasion. They get sprayed with poultry protector & have a DE dust bath area. She's the only one like this ..... so if it were nutrition, bugs, etc I'd think the others would have it.

She's been like this for a couple of months. None of the other chickens show any signs. I spray them with Poultry Protector often, as well as their stall & nesting boxes. I'll also spray their stall & nesting boxes with Ultra Shield EX (an equine fly spray with Permethrin, Pyrethrins, & Piperonyl Butoxide) a few times a year. I don't directly spray that on them, but while the horses are eating their breakfast the chickens run over to eat what they spill & they'll get lightly misted with the fly spray as I'm spraying the horses. They also use their DE dust bath area often. I also use a de-wormer twice a year. I really hope it isn't a parasite with all that I am doing!

She feels fine .... but I'll be going up to the barn shortly & will have to check her again & check another one to compare her to, just to double check. Should I check right below the vent area?

Check a normal bird first so you will pick up on any difference then feel her over carefully in that area that's red but her whole abdomen in general, from between the legs on back.

She did feel SLIGHTLY larger on the sides of the red area, not much though. & it does feel a little warmer, but I don't know if that's from lack of feathers? It's doesn't feel hard or firm, nor overly soft. I didn't feel any lumps either. Here are a couple of pictures of the red area, as well as the shape of the eggs that she lays next to normal ones.

The red area is below the vent. About two inches wide & about four inches long. No large or firm abnormalities.
