i wanted to get some chickens from a poultry processing place to same them from being slaughtered but the place only sells red sex links. Have you ever had them before and are the friendly? how much do they weigh, and do they tend to be flighty? I always thought they were used for eggs but this place sells them for meat, is it common to eat them (im just keeping them for layers)?

I like mine, they're friendly little egg laying machines. I think they're a little light bodied for a dual purpose bird. Mine are very friendly, but I wouldn't count on a rescue being that way, at least not at first.

I thought they were only used for eggs to.They are kinda small and boney. They are not flighty real good layers of medium to large eggs even in winter.Bear confinmen well.are fairly quiet untill they lay an egg.

Yup.

Mine are friendlier than the Barred Rocks we used to have. One even perches on my shoulder and eats bread out of my hands like a parrot. They're vocal, but not loud. Rosebud, our flock leader, follows e around as I do morning chores, just chattering "baw-baw-baw-bawk-baw-baw-baw." Personally, I think she's gossiping about the other hens. Two are flightier than the others, but the other four are very friendly and enjoy being held. With 6 hens, I get 4-6 eggs a day, usually 6 but sometimes less.

I only have one, but she is my favorite hen. Very friendly, I can walk up and pick her up if she escapes. She's most like a pet, compared to the rest who are spoiled livestock. lol
She's DH's favorite too.
She's the rooster's favorite TOO - she's the only one who needs a hen saddle!

BUT for some reason she has recently gone on egglaying STRIKE and I can't find a durn thing wrong with her!

If she wasn't the favorite she'd probably be soup
