My chickens had lice two months ago and i was careful to get rid of them with de and permethrin and vet help. one of my girls had bright red skin between her legs on either side of her tummy bone (idk what its called) and i thought it was because of the lice. but she has it still! no feathers on those strips either. im low on vet money and have no clue if this is super bad or medium bad or what to do... new to chickens. the lice has been cleared up for at least 4 weeks. in the pics she is wet from playing in the swamp tall grass.

Welcome to BYC. Pictures may be helpful. It might be a feather picking issue. Lice can return, so I would check again at intervals for any on her skin.
Ok I will try to get pictures when she comes in from free range. does feather picking issue mean her doing it or her sisters? thanks for the help!

A possibly important question is: Do the red areas feel any hotter than other areas of her skin? It looks like there are smaller feathers around the spots, like she could have lost feathers, and is growing them back. I don't know enough to tell if it's pecking, though.

She may be picking feathers but it could be another chicken. Some are broken off. The red skin probably does feel warmer since it is inflamed. Sometimes feathers don’t grow back in until the next big molt. When is she due for her next molt? I would spend some time watching her with the others when she is hanging around and while on the roost in the evening to see if any other is pulling her feathers.

i think they did feel hot. what does that mean? she could have pecked them out during the lice debacle but i just dont think she gets peck at. shes the second biggest of five very cuddley buff orps who free feed 24/7 and free range daylight hours. i have a feeling that somethings wrong though and i just dont know how to help. thanks for your comment! any advice?

I think her next malt would be this fall. She's only 11 months though so she hasn't really had a big one yet. Thanks for the tips.
One thing that I have noticed is that all five of them only lay in one of the nesting boxes and it doesn't seem to matter which one they just pick one for the day and every single chicken will lay in that one and if a chicken is taking too long one will try to squeeze on top of them and they have two roasting bars at night and they all pile on one rather than spreading out a bit even though they're the same height and pretty much identical in every other way so maybe there is some tricky flock dynamics happening i havent noticed yet.
