Red Star Eggs?????

I spent a lot of money buying chicks this Spring and the funny thing is I bought these Red STars as a whim at a farm auction. There were two lots for sale that day - no age given, but I knew from looking at them that they weren't old egg layers (which is usually what's at this auction). I only paid $4.75 each for six of them. I've paid that much for a day old chick then add the shipping on top of that and feeding them for 5 months before they start to lay! I will DEFINITELY do this again. I am amazed as I've been raising chickens a lot of years and NEVER have seen a pullet lay a large egg right out of the gate - and some of these are xtra large!

That describes my Redsexlink's eggs pretty well. They have always been pretty large and round, although not extreme. They vary a bit in shading, sometimes have a few speckles, and sometimes they have a lighter "film" on them that distorts the color. What always gets me about them is that they are almost round, and I always have to fiddle with them a bit until I decide which end goes up in the carton. There isn't an obvious big end vs. pointy end. (I always put them in the fridge fat end up, even though I don't currently hatch)

I have a Leghorn that always lays "tall" skinny eggs, kinda pointy on both ends.
Whoever decided that "egg-shaped" described a certain specific shape must not have met actual barnyard chickens.
