we recently adopted 4 red star males I found out they are sex linked as far as genetics went. I was wondering what kind of outcomes/ colors/ sex if I let them breed to our black australorps? will females be one color and males another like their father or does that only happen in their first generation?

its my first time keeping males and wanting to try and raise chicks

thnx for responses

Red Star is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which can be sexed by color from hatching (males are whitish, females are reddish). However, since Red Sex Links are hybrids they will not breed true; the sex link characteristics only occur with the first generation red gene rooster X silver gene hen cross. Even if you mate two Red Sex Links together, you will not be able to sex the chicks by color. If you breed your Red Sex Links to your Black Australorps, the offspring will simply be mixed breeds (barnyard mutts).

tyvm for the link.

I used to breed show Siamese with the red and cream sex link genes, just wondered how it compared with chickens lol.
