Red Star?

I think he is sorely misinformed. I know he is not open to hearing he might be wrong. I tried that when I got the other so called Amercauna from him. What will he get when he crosses a Red Star roo with Red Star hen? I'm now kinda curious.....

A barnyard mix that is not able to be sexed by color at hatch. Sex linking does not carry into the second generation. This is why, when I see people selling "cinnamon queen" or "red star" chicks from their own flocks I will ask what specific cross they use for their chicks -- nearly 50% of the time I'll get "I have cinnamon queen hens and a cinnamon queen rooster" (usually with a bit of a "duh" sort of tone) - at which point I know that these are not the chicks for me. If the person seems open to being gently educated I will do so, but as you have seen with this person there are plenty of folks who opt to dig in and refuse to hear any differing information.

He'll get basically red and white chicks, but no longer will the sex be linked to the color. Males will be red, females will be white, both genders will be multi-colored.

the females will still be good egg layers.

I'd love to be able to get that much for chicks! here, seems I can either sell them as brooder chicks, or as point of lay. If I try to sell them in between, folks balk at paying. they'll pay $5 for a sex link day old chick or straight run Marans. They'll pay $20 for pretty much any breed point of lay pullet. But ask them to pay $10-12 for a bird in between and they act like I'm trying to pull something over on them

.

Sorry, just a little rant.

I think Red Stars are the name McMurray hatchery gives their red sex links. They're easy enough to get, just call the hatchery and place an order. They're a few dollars each.

Thanks for all the info folks! Trying to learn is hard with so much information out there. The breeding aspect is very interesting to me and I'm confident I will, at some point, try my hand at it. For now I have to live vicariously through this forum while just enjoying my little flock.

Is this a red star? That is what I was told. Red Stars are sexed hens also, correct? She is almost three months old.
