Redbro, anyone ever kept a few for personal replacement stock?

First can anyone compare Redbro from JM Hatchery and Red Ranger etc. from S & G? Do they both come from the same "restricted" Hubbard breeder stock? Any one know which US hatcheries have access to the true utility Hubbard breeding lines that produce the rouge label lines? Or is this the same Easter egger/Ameraucana deal that some places pass off as the same breed.

We are really trying to create a homestead for ourselves that includes self sustainable livestock and produce that we can re-procreate year to year for our own needs. Has anyone grew out and hatched a second generation of Redbro or rouge label type from the original hatchery stock? Are the offspring noticeably different in growth rate or in any other way?

There has been discussion of keeping and breeding Colored Ranges, Freedom Rangers, what have you, but I don't recall anyone reporting their results here. Check back in the fall...

The first place I heard of selling Hubbard redbro was Yankee Chicks/Hall Brothers Hatchery in Connecticut. They have no web site and when I called it was unclear to me whether they were hatching them or just reselling.

What kind of Chanteclers do you raise?

I raised both Redbro, Dixie rangers, and freedom rangers in 2009. Today I had 30 DR and Redbro processed that hatched in August.

They just did not grow. I did have better luck with the DR and Redbros earlier in the season, but it still took 16-18 weeks using the same techniques that had the freedom rangers ready to process at 11 weeks. The rangers are a hybrid, but I have read quite a few posts on here about people keeping some for breeding stock and being happy with the 1st generation results. I plan on holding some back this year and breeding them. I''ll be sharing my results over the next few years.

On a positive note the rainbows and redbro started laying at 4-5 months and layed during the winter with no lights or heat.

I am interested in raising my own Colored Rangers also this year. I plan to keep back 4-5, cross my Partridge Rock roo over them and hatch replacement meaties for my homestead.

Anyone else did this?

Where did you get those freedom rangers? The "freedom rangers" on JM Hatchery are called Redbro, so which are the freedom rangers you have?

how was your breeding experiment with the rock and ranger? i ordered a few red rangers last year and i love their foraging ability, their size meatiness, etc....

i plan on ordering Freedom Rangers. i saw your earlier post on how you were not really satisfied with redbro and dixies. did you have better luck with the freedoms?
