Redinator's First Hatch-Along w Bonus Broody: And Everything Thereafter

They'll be a good experiment bunch. Adam will be happy to have more layers, I'm sure 🤔
My plan right now is to get an incubator and then get some easy to come by BYM eggs, probably just from my neighbor. That way I can get a feel for the process before I pay more money for shipped eggs for specific breeds. Anything I hatch out from her birds that I wouldn't want to keep, she'd take right back and add to her flock, so that wouldn't be an issue.

I have a neighbor I gave a unrelated male chick to earlier this spring. We plan to swap a few chicks back and forth to decrease the likelihood of inbreeding.

I love that! My neighbor and I hand similar plans. She and I get along great and share the crazy chicken passion. She actually just texted me a screenshot showing me that a lady one town over is selling bantam cochin hatching eggs. She's NPIP (not that that is a requirement for me) and has all the colors I want!

Go get em! And stop for an incubator on the way. :lau

Ok, so for dry hatching the ambient humidity in the incubator has to stay around 15%. I live in a humid region, so I'll have to check if dry hatching is even an option. Testing incubators tonight and possibly tomorrow.

It's taking everything in my power not to! I've got 5 chicks in the brooder. But cochins....
So, that's like 2 and a half. right? Eggs take 21 days to hatch, the chicks you have will likely be outside by then.

I'll stop, I know how hard it is to make the right decision when a lil devil in a chick suit lives on your shoulder. 👿 /:jumpy

Or when an actual chicken is sitting on my shoulder, being so cute that I just HAVE to get more.

I think chickens are making me bipolar. This morning I was a sobbing mess thinking I lost three chicks. Now I'm all giddy and excited to hatch some more chicks . . . what on Earth is going on, lol.
