Redinator's First Hatch-Along w Bonus Broody: And Everything Thereafter

I was able to get the chick to drink a few drops of honey water. I'm always surprised at how hard it can be to open chicks mouth, even when they're weak.

I know you said they've been on medicated feed but it wouldn't hurt to treat for coccidiosis anyway, if it's standing around puffed up and not eating much.

I've never had to treat a constipated chicken but if you're trying to give it a bit of oil, something like coconut might be easier as you could feed it in a solid lump.

Will come back to questions re crop feeding shortly - need to go check my first time mum hasn't eaten her chicks!

Would margarine/butter work? I don't have coconut oil on hand.

Seems you have a long day ahead too, snap a few pictures if you could please I could use a pick me up:)

I personally wouldn't use margarine for anything and I don't know about butter, sorry. Like I say, I've never had to treat a chicken for constipation, so I have no idea whether feeding fats will actually help or not and don't want to suggest something that might be useless or even harmful.

I think fluids are probably important if the chick is constipated rather than just not eating.
