Redinator's First Hatch-Along w Bonus Broody: And Everything Thereafter

@AnneGirlGG @ella2025 @jxp @Rooski456 @TheChickenGirl16

Y'all I just couldn't wait a second longer

I ended up ordering these hatching eggs:
4 Lavender Ameraucanas, 4 Black Tailed Red Marans, 4 Crele Penedesencas, 6 Buff Orpingtons
and last, but certainly not least
14 Cream Legbar Hatching eggs!!!

I ordered them from EBay and they're from 3 different sellers and I think they'll all be coming in the next two weeks. Some of the seller's stated in the description orders may take longer this time of year due to some of the chickens molting, so we'll see how this goes. 🤞
Wow! Good luck on your hatch! And you finally got maran eggs!

I'll be getting Marans and the Crele Penedesencas. The Crele Penedesencas were the ones we both thought were Marans, in the Halloween hatch a long, because they were so dark.

I can send you some eggs if you need more. My hens now have 3 roosters in their run for laying inspiration.

I'm a bit jealous of the blue tinted one thb, lol.

I'm having to come up with new egg recipes to use most of ours. The next in the list in homemade eggnog since I can never find it in stores after the holidays.

So, I was reading ur last list up there.
Did you really only get 3 males?
What’s your secret??

I know this is not posted to me but if I may offer: some community members are experimenting with incubation temps. Slightly higher they're getting more of one sex. Slightly lower and most of the brood are the other. I am certain at least one or two (hopefully more) are keeping records and compiling the data. Happy researching!

I'm not sure which list you're referring to, but I sell/rehome/cull males I don't need or that cause problems. My space is limited so too many males causes lots of conflict and the girls would get harrassed endlessly if I didn't.

It's funny you should mention this . . . I was discussing this with a friend the other day. I used turtle eggs as an example, where the position in the nest mound determines gender because of the variance in temperature throughout the nest. I wondered if chicken eggs could be effected the same way . . . .?

I plan to hatch the ones I get from this order in the regular manner (I'd die if I ended up with all males) but when I hatch some from my own chickens later this year I plan to set the temps a bit higher in one batch and lower in the other and see what happens.
