Redinator's First Hatch-Along

Pics
I have two barnyard mix males and one will likely get replaced by an Ayam Cemani male, assuming one gets along with the other male I intend to keep.

The two current males were hatched together and sorted out the pecking order early. Aside from the occasional dust up they get along great.

Were the Ayam males friendly? Neither of mine are particularly friendly, but only one has caused a few problems.

Depending on the temperment of the Ayam male, they may both get replaced by one male.
They might have individual temperaments. My 2 male Ayem Cemanis: One that started crowing at 8 weeks old picks fights with birds larger than himself. The other one I have not observed crowing or starting a fight, but he definitely stands up for himself. The 3 hens are shy, don’t have the large upright combs, and run away from all conflict.

When I said 'friendly' I meant towards people. I guess I should've worded it better. Of the two I have neither is particularly outgoing towards people. They only tolerate me because I feed them, lol.

So far, they run towards me without fear because it usually means food or treats. No aggression. They run away if I reach to pet them

Ok, my boys are the same. Most of my older pullets too. Some will stand for a bit and let me give them a scratch, but forget trying to pick them up, lol.

I have a batch of chicks in the yard I'm spending a lot more time with and they actually seek me out for attention and scratches. :love Some are happy to use me as a playground, but freak when I touch them. I figured out if I put my hand in front of them and gently lift them from underneath they don't panic.

Oh I discovered when I have to move my older chickens that don't like being handled . . . I put my arm in front of them to encourage them to 'step up' (like you would a parrot) and use my other hand against their chest to help them balance . . . .they don't mind as much as they do when I try to grab them and hold them to my chest. I guess it feels more natural than having their legs dangling beneath them.:idunno

Busy, busy days.

My son and I spent most of the day Thursday and Friday busting up and removing concrete from the new run area.

I'm still working on integrating the nearly 6 and 7 week olds. Two of my lowest ranking pullets are not thrilled with the newcomers, to say the least.

Sweety is still sitting on eggs . . she comes out for about hour or so mid day, then goes back in. :love I really didn't think I could love her more, but if she's my broody mama girl . . .just :love:love:love:love her.

I'm also dealing with squirrels getting into the treadle feeder :barnie , but I think I have the figured out: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/tired-of-feeding-freeloaders.1674092/

Don't worry, I found plenty of time to spend with the chicks in the yard . . .honestly if they weren't so cute, I'd get more done. I can't pass the run and hear them peeping for me and not go in.

Now, y'all didn't come here to hear me blather on about all that. Who's ready to see some candling action?
