Could you get some clearer pics? From that one his legs look awful. Does he act in pain at all? He's undisputed top rooster in a flock of about 10 (no other roosters currently, doubt he's getting picked on), they all free range, no one else has any noticeable symptoms symptoms though.
They do look pretty awful, he does not act in pain noticably. I don't know if any of these pics are clearer, but heres some from different angle. I can try to get actually clearer pics tomorrow morning.
Eh, they wouldn't all necessarily have SLM. Good on ya for putting in all the effort to catch him and treat him. (Little does he know it's for his own good).Thank you for the feedback. We've been catching him and giving him the spa soak + petroleum jelly + DE. Hoping this shows fast improvement, he's very hard to catch unless its grabbing him from the roost at night, we can catch him with a net but he gets really tangled up as he flails around. but we're catching him during the middle of the day, so he has time to dry off
This rooster has lived here longer than we have, and he's always had scaly dinosaur looking legs and the hugs spurs, for the last 1.5 years at least. They may not have been this gnarly the whole time, but this clearly isn't a new infestation he's suffering from. Yet we've caught every other bird in the flock, no symptoms on any one. Is that reasonable? Or would you expect every bird to have mites? they all free range together during the day and share a coop at night
