thanks ftwchopper thats identical to mine but mine does have 12 trays and slots for 2 more in th bottom. does your 8 trays hold 1200 eggs ?will my 12 trays only hold 1200 eggs? not arguing just confused. btw great looking restore

Best way to find out is to load up a tray and see what it will hold. I think the manufacturer's capacity figures are rather optomistic. I only fit about 72 Large chicken or duck eggs per tray in my Farm Master.

Yes,my 8 tray model is listed as holding 1200 eggs.I agree with DB in that is being very optimistic. The 12 tray model is the largest one they made at 2100 eggs. The two trays on the bottom are hatching trays...Even the four hundred egg model is large compared to todays standards.
My gqf sportsman holds about 280 i think.Just wondering where you would find 2100 fertile eggs ??

I also have a Farm Master and am having problems maintaining humidity in it. Have any of you tried bees wax on the trays, to keep them from sucking up every bit of moisture and still remain dry. If not have you treated the trays?
Thanks Michele

Hi Michele...I was wondering the same thing but never heard of using wax.The trays in mine are so dried out that i was thinking of treating them with something.Boiled linseed oil came to mind because its non toxic.

ah thats only bout 8 dozen a day (i think) lol . but right now we are only get about 6 dozen ,me and my brother together that is. i dont think i will ever get full up though last year i ran three homemade incubators 2-600 eggs and 1-300 egg and only got full for 2 weeks all spring and sold 6-8 dozen those weeks we have roughly same number of birds so expect abuot the number of eggs (but none of us know exacty how many hens though) i know thats bad but ............ we just luv raising baby chicks btw thanks for the info

One of the reasons the redwoods are popular with waterfowl hatchers is supposed to be their superior humidity retaining ability.
I don't think sealing the trays would be the way to go.
These trays were never sealed originally, but they have been drying out for years and years.
I think the key might be to keep the pan full until the trays have absorbed all they will. At that point the water consumption should slow down and
maintaining humidity should become much easier.

Another thought would be to check the door seal or gasket. I know its true of the Sportsman and probably applies to the redwoods as well.
A leaking door seal just allows the humidity to blow right out of the cabinet. Go around the perimeter of the door with a lit candle and check for drafts.

Yeah but remember back then the eggs and chickens where not as they are today
