Redwood mulch for coop floor???

I have a supply of free redwood mulch and wondered if anyone has used redwood mulch for their chicken coop floor ? Does mulch do the job or does it have to be shavings? I am getting my chickens next week and need to get this figured out. Thanks for any advice.

Mulch holds in moisture/mold and can be rough on the feet when chickens jump down from their roost.

If I were you I'd still get the free mulch & use it somewhere in the garden around the house or for a path
