FINALLY - ME MEMEMEMEMEMEMEM!!!!!

It's been almost a full year since we moved into the new place. Moving ponies, horses, dogs, cats, chickens (lost the ducks while they were in temp qtrs at a friend's farm) and household goods; putting up fence for ponies, putting up fence for chickens, putting up fence for dogs (they dig, gee whizz) and alternating between working part time and full time (10 hour days) plus being sick at the beginning of the year and now again at the end of the year. Having first our oldest daughter's NSH pass due to cancer and then a 4 month old filly (a keeper) pass in a freak pasture accident, then a baby born the next day - NO PONIES have been worked...

and yesterday, I'd had enough. I wanted to drive a pair of ponies. Wagon has weathered hard - even though tarped when outside or in an actual storage building. Wheels were low on air. Harness - I'd forgotten I'd marked most of it w/ duct tape/names the last time used/cleaned - before moving & storage for months! Ahhhh - SOOOO much easier. After doing chores a mother/daughter pair pulled out and their winter hair given as good a going over as we could get, bridle paths trimmed w/ scissors (clippers haven't been serviced - none working - plus couldn't find them yet in all our 'stuff') & harness fitted for the first time in 14 months. The 5 yr old daughter has grown substantially - the mini harness no longer fit and the last small pony harness fitted to her had to be let out. Made all the adjustments -

then did a refresher ground driving course (it's been 14 months since they'd been harnessed driven & GG is still a green driving pony). Then a hitch to the wagon, load up the SIL & grand daughters & their friend & out to the road for a short 2 mile jaunt... Yep, they are out of shape - but both seemed happy to be out & about. Hope to do some more driving with these girls and actually get them back into pulling shape. I think I worked as hard as they had - while cleaning the sweat off of them before we could turn them back out. But it was such a nice hour of time. Gracie & Gwenn (granddaughters) were enthralled - they didn't remember the previous times they'd been out driving with me...

The Broadway, NC Christmas Parade is tomorrow - but none of our ponies (or the wagon) are in any kind of shape for that. The last time I participated was in 2012 and I hope to be there again next year...

This is the other pair at the Christmas Parade in 2012. I will be driving them this afternoon...




Bell & Bit, the two light silver dapples, are full sisters and are 23 & 24 yrs old this year. Koalah is 17 now. Bell was pregnant with GG when I purchased her 9in 2009.

Awesome pix.... Them ponies live a long time. I had a trainer friend who had a POA mare that was her go to for the little kids for riding. She was about fourteen hands. As hear as she could tell that mare lived till she was 45 and giving lessons in some fashion till her last year.

introducing 2 geldings who have been unable to get along since being gelded over 2 years ago. Finally yesterday they accepted each other. Left a lunge line on the one in case of having to rescue one from the other and I was out there the whole time with them. Only one fight broke out that I had to intervene. The rest were a couple kicks and over with.

Awesome... Herd dynamics is a very interesting subject. I have a friend who was doing NH before anyone even coined the phrase.
But one of her specialities is managing herds. Over the years shes had at least fifteen horses of her own.

Right now she has four Stallions about six mares and two geldings.
