I'm also building my own and I sure hope mine comes out as good as that!

I found plans on the Purina website that has it being 4' X 4'. Since we are getting only 4 chicks, this should be the perfect size, if not a little large. I plan to use pallets for the wood since its free. I might wind up buying the pressure treated uprights. The coop will sit inside an unused part of my garden that is already fenced. I will just add a roof off chicken wire and add hardware cloth around the bottom to keep out the small critters.
