Rehoming a hen

I have a five year old Black Australorp hen named Percy. I am needing to re-home her as I will no longer have time to take care of her. She is very docile and friendly, and likes to be petted every now and then. She doesn’t make a lot of noise.



I live in Austin TX, just above the 290, and by Harris Branch Parkway. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take her?

Wish I could find a way to take her--BAs are my favorite. I'm maxed out on space right now..... Have you tried posting in the "Where am I? Where are You?" forum here on BYC? Look under the Texas thread and post your request along with a picture, if possible. Also, you might add your general location in the title of your post to get attention quicker.

Also, I have tried to post on social media to see if anyone there could take her.

I tried to use Facebook, but Facebook permanently disabled my account because it “did not follow community standards”. What does this mean?


I was thinking about also using Craigslist and/or Nextdoor to post about re-homing Percy.


I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with Craigslist and Nextdoor, and if so could you give me advice on them. I am hesitant to use Craigslist due to safety concerns. I did some research on Nextdoor, and people say that Nextdoor reports users for not following community guidelines. I wanted to ask if this is the case, and what does that mean?

I've sold on Craigslist. I'd just strongly vet your potential adopters. As in, show me your current flock please, coop, what do you feed, etc. You are rehoming a pet by the sound of it so make that clear and ensure you feel confident that your girl will be treated as such

I always pick the meeting spot in public, a daytime hour, and take a friend along!

I use NextDoor, and they can kick you off for not following the guidelines. Mostly that means you cannot sell animals on ND, but you can rehome them.
