rehoming our geese- sad to say...great new home found today!

ok, sadly we have decided to rehome our geese. our neighbor called all angry that there was goose poop in her yard. i don't blame her, but there is no way to fence off our property without doing the whole thing and DH says noto that b/c of the cost. I don't feel its fair to pen them up in a smaller section of our yard or a chicken pen sized area.
So if there is anyone in the NJ/Pa area that can come get them and give them a wonderful home, let me know. I was thinking of asking $5 for each of them (6 geese) but if the new home is wonderful and they are going to be loved, I won't push that part of it. We feel so sad about this already and just want a great new home for them. I'm out of town and my older sons and DH are home working...in and out. I'm hoping this can be over and done with this week, so my neighbor doesn't call all mad again and that my daughter and I don't have to go home and say goodbye to them. That'd be too hard.
I'll check on here to see if anyone PMs me. They are Pilgrim geese, about 4 months old and very sweet.
Thanks

Honestly, I don't see why you can't fashion a pretty cheap place to keep them... You can get wood pretty cheap, and could just fashion a fence a little higher than the geese... Or a dog run might work, if it's big enough. As a temporary fix. Or perhaps, clip their wings. It is painless and is just cutting off the primary flights, maybe even on one wing if they are not great fliers.

I don't think rehoming is the best option. The change of environment may be even more stressful than a smaller place to roam.

I've got say give the geese a very large wire pen to roam in. I most certainly wouldn't give up my animals without a fight for ANY neighbour!! That wouldn't cost an awful lot to put up.

Obviously don't let them roam on their land etc to give them cause to moan & if they don't like the noise of them - tough on them. Especially a fuss pot like yours!! What a pain in the arse!

Usually geese don't wander too far from home if they're fed nice things routinely.

Good luck - hope you sort it without having to rehome them. Geese get very attached to their carers.

thanks...we'll see. maybe a chicken wire pen that's about 4' tall would hold them in? the 2' fencing I used when they were babies didn't last past 6 weeks old. They ran right over it and out. I"ll have my DH and son work on it...I really don't care if my neighbor hates the noise- I know she doesn't like my RooRoos and their noise, but we're not going to rehome them! Too bad! They actually cut down a beautiful maple tree because they didn't like the way it looked...??? what? I'm planting 10 baby trees from the Arbor Day Foundation along that property line as soon as they are big enough to replant! Ha! I really don't like that pesky neighbor! But I don't want my babies wandering over there and pooping either!

well, we found the perfect home for them today. Its just down the road about 8 miles, and its a restored farm with a big spring fed pond for them. As soon as the cage doors were opened, they hopped out and went right in their new pond. They swam around and then got out and started checking out the new digs. 40 acres and they can go anywhere without bothering a soul.
So someday when we have our own farm or a big fence, or that neighbor moves away, I'll try again. Not until I know it'll work out.
Thanks all for trying to help. They'll be so happy there- she was looking into getting Pilgrims for her pond anyways.

Glad to hear you found a good home for your babies .... and they aren't too far away, so maybe you could visit? If I were close enough, I would have certainly taken them.

Gwen
