So I have an almost 3 year old female call duck. She got out of her pen three weeks ago and was attacked by my Pekins who are kept in a seperate yard. Her eyes were really beat up and we feared vision lose due to a hole in her third eyelid.
Lucky she is now almost fully healed and only has one more week on an eye drop for one of her eyes. Because of this I thought it was time to start reintroducing her to her flock again. I’ve kept her completely separated as it is winter where I live and I didn’t want her to be cold as well as injured, so they haven’t seen her in three weeks.
I know that it’s going to take a while for them to reestablish the hierarchy again but I was wondering if there’s a particular way I should go about it?
I have 2 other females and 1 drake, the drake has never really taken a liking to her but it was also never really hostile more disinterest. The problem is one of my other females can be quite aggressive at times so I’m worried she’ll make the injuries worse for the duck.
Should I start having her sleep in their pen in her own seperate crate so they can get used to each other again? The other problem is that even though she’s got her wings clipped she can still fly which is how she got into the other pen, I don’t know if I should try and clip them more because I can’t really afford to extend the fence and I’ve seen her fly before she can get really high.
Any advise is welcome, thanks.
