Reject Hatching Eggs - aka "The Undesirable Egg Experiment"

I haven't checked them in a little while. I'll peek at them again tonight. I'm going to lockdown on day 17, which will be Sunday 3/8. Hatch day is Thursday 3/12!
Hubby and I are so excited and keep watching here! Wishing you all the best and can't wait to see chicks!! (We have 2 speckled sussex chicks that we will be adding to our flock, but they are coming in the mail the week of the 16th, lol!)

Woohoo! Cant wait to see little babies! Update with how they look tonight ;) Why are you going into lockdown on day 17? I'm just curious. I always go in three days before expected hatch day. Does it work better for you?

Thank you! And good luck with your chicks as well! I love my Speckled Sussex! They're a very sweet breed.

Will do! When I say day 17 lockdown it's still the evening of day 17, I like to candle at night so I can candle in darkness without having to carry them into another dark room without windows.

I base lockdown on how they look when I candle them but the fresher the eggs are when set, the earlier they hatch in my experience. These were local eggs so I anticipate early pips. Studies have shown that there are no detrimental effects to stopping turning after day 13 but I never stop them that early. Depending on how the air cells looks I may still wait to increase humidity until day 18-19 but these eggs were porous, cracked, and otherwise set up to likely be losing more water weight so I'll probably be increasing humidity too. I'll update tonight!

Oh, ok. Thanks for the info, that is very interesting. What day are these on again? Good luck! I'll check back later tonight for an update.
