Some people abandon extra roosters in the woods because they do not want to kill them themselves. They acknowledge the birds is going to be eaten by some wild predator, what most people do not take into account is the fact that the bird will be hungry and starving until taken by a wild predator.
Will they live on their own, if released? No. The chances of them living are slim at best. Some birds manage to "survive", but that is survive and not thrive.
Also, it is illegal. It is "abandonment, as someone stated earlier. If you look hard enough, you will find members on BYC that had to actually go to court, because someone reported her for abandoning a (1!!)rooster.
It is better to kill it yourself or to rehome it.
