No, seriously when people release dometic animals into the wild, it does screw up the local ecology. There are places (like Key West) where wild chickens cause problems.

Yep, you are right there. And well its just immoral. If you can no longer care for your birds, post an ad for them at you local co-op, or even here....I am sure they will be taken off your hands in no time flat.
Some people abandon extra roosters in the woods because they do not want to kill them themselves. They acknowledge the birds is going to be eaten by some wild predator, what most people do not take into account is the fact that the bird will be hungry and starving until taken by a wild predator.
Will they live on their own, if released? No. The chances of them living are slim at best. Some birds manage to "survive", but that is survive and not thrive.
Also, it is illegal. It is "abandonment, as someone stated earlier. If you look hard enough, you will find members on BYC that had to actually go to court, because someone reported her for abandoning a (1!!)rooster.
If you don't want them any more and you don't want to take the time to find them homes you're better off killing them yourself instead of having them slowly die of starvation or thirst or getting eaten by a predator. Even if they roost in trees, raccoon will snatch them up quickly.
