remember the SOB dogs? One came back!!!

You handled that a lot better than I probably would have! OK thats two strikes! For the record I own a dog and have in the past. I also like and appreciate what a good dog can do! The fact that the dog came when you called it would have saved its life here, or at the very least some # 6 shotgunpellets in its behind! Hope you dont find this post ugly, it is honest at least! I commend you for your behavior and good luck in the future. Moreover I hope you dont regret your generosity!

It does amaze me that someone can do no more than strap a collar on a dog and think they've done their duty as a pet owner. I've seen that in my own neighborhood. One neighbor does it regularly. They feed a pack of strays, put a collar on the most friendly, then do nothing else but throw food out to it every day. Just astounding. The dogs run loose, invade other peoples properties, turn over trash, run and kill livestock and other pets and even growl at other neighbors who only are out for a stroll down the street.
You were extremely kind to her today, Deb. Hope there isn't a next time to test your patience and resolve.

Is it a nice dog? I mean other than it kills chickens? There must be someone on this forum that would like to adopt it. Hopefully, someone far away, like Hawaii or Mexico.

That lady already had two chances with it.

well dang you handled thay well,
I cant stand people that will tell you something then turn around and let it happen again.
labs are very integetic and smart, if they fence the dog up I bet it will dig out.Or jump the fence.
Im glad you are going to rehome it next time instead of
you giving him back to her and it happening again...
I hope that this is the last time you will ever have to deal
with these./people/dogs

Deb,

Just wanted to say I think you did an excellent job of handling the dog owner. Hope you won't have any more problems.

Wow, you kept your cool and handled the dog owner. I hope you have the opportunity to rehome the doggie, without getting more chickens killed. I admire your restraint.

I think all responsible pet owners are offended by those who take in helpless animals and then don't take proper care of them.

So good luck. And congrats on handling the situation with elegance and grace. Yahoo, Deb!!

Maybe her son did let the dog out and he wouldn't come when she called him.
But, now that she knows the deal, she should be well aware to inform her son not to let him out.

I have a jack russell/rat terrier who loves everyone.
He will obey as long as he is inside, in the fence, or on a leash.
If he gets the chance to run thru the gate or out the front door, he will not come when called, we have to chase him down. And we do just that! We follow him immediately and bring him back home and this lady should have done the same.
Great job Deb, giving this lady and her dog another chance.

You handled that with real class.

You were polite, rational, firm and very very clear.
Just make sure you follow through on what you said you would do, otherwise it starts all over again. (I say this from experience in a situation I had. I set the boundaries , then felt sorry for the person and didn't follow through my plan of action. It came back and bit me).
