Remember when America's dollar was the most powerful dollar?

For a gas engine to get 200K miles on it its thought of as one that lasted. Twice to 3 times that for a diesel. Mine is a (junk) 6.2 in a suburban that spent the better part of its 30 years driving cross country. I would hate to guess how many miles it has on it an it still runs like a top an makes 19 miles to the gallon. Comparing that to my last truck. It was a 5.7 gas engine. It was newer, had way less miles an weighed less but had less power & fuel mileage. I like my gas burners an have built some nice ones but diesels do have some real advantages. Halling a load fuel mileage being the big one. My gas truck made 8 MPG on the highway with 10K of trailer an 15MPG just the truck. The diesel suburban makes 19MPG by its self an about 17MPG pulling a 10K trailer.

I had a 2000 VW Turbo diesel. Even with the auto transmission, and a teenage driver we got an average of more than 40 mpg. Now we have a 1985 diesel Volvo 745 sedan. I don't really know what kind of mileage we get on it, but with only 160,000 miles on it, the engine should be able to run for the rest of our lives. What will kill this car, is having to replace the other components on it. Buying new fuel injectors maybe worth more than the car now.

Uhhh they can pull anything! Mainly the best thing is: DHs duramax gets 14+ mpg and he pulls almost daily with it. Empty is 17+ and my suburban gets 19+mpg. And it has 180k and runs perfect! They sound way cooler

turbo whistle is fun. ok I'm weird about diesels! DH has an 05' and mines a 95' and we always use additive to help with ultra low sulfur. We've removed a few uhhh un-needed parts in both... helps with mpg

Speaking of which the price of fuel alone is proof of how much our dollar has depreciated. When I got married in 02' gas was .98¢ a gallon here in north Idaho. We've come along ways since then!

My dad's non diesel truck can haul and it gets 15 MPG and has about 130K miles on it with literally only one small problem, the thing that changes from 2 WD to 4WD wasnt working he fixed it easily lol

What's he hauling??? DHs old 01' GMC 1500 5.3 gasser got 14 all the time empty. Before the Dmax he used a 1979 chevy 3/4 ton with a tired 350 to haul his equipment and it got 4.... yes 4 mpg. It saved us money to upgrade to the duramax. What my hubby hauls isn't light and the bed is always full of his tools and a big ugly ladder rack! and the way he drives that thing! Wheew I'm amazed it still goes! (Kinda my fault for buying him the programmer) when I drive the dmax it gets better mpg

My old 99 1500 suburban with 5.7 gas 120k got 11mpg didn't matter what I did it got 11 ugh. We could hardly afford to drive it! but this is kinda off topic...sorry

My "Diesel Beast" is a 1993 F250 with the 7.1L IDI engine. I get 20 - 21 mpg with it, it's got over 340K miles. Gotta love those old pre-emissions control engines.

Hmmm... cannot find that in the rules... except the rules of etiquette.

Perhaps a PM would better serve your request than broadcasting it as a post. There is nothing that says someone can't respond to a post, but a PM is read only by the intended receiver. You're ALLOWED to put it in a post, just as anyone is ALLOWED to respond in that post.

True, but common respect should restrain one.
