Hi I just lost my first chicken a few days ago and it has made a huge impact on me. I would like to Dedicate a Thread to those who have died. You may add their names and pictures if you like.

I'm so sorry for your loss. A few of mine died recently as well they were over 3 years old. I will miss Phoebe, Chole, Ferdi and Lola. They are survived by their rooster, Ruby, and their sister, Sophie.

I'm so sorry.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have lost 3 roosters (not at the same time). My first rooster (And first chicken ever), his name was Peep. He was a RIR and was pretty much like a dog. We just loved big 'ole Peeper.

The second one was Wesley. He was a..... well we're still not exactly sure what breed he was. He was very mean and protective around his girls, but if you separated him from them he was just the sweetest.

And, a few weeks ago, we lost Jazz; a Silver Duckwing OEGB. He was the sweetest chicken I've ever known. He was so good to his girls. I never saw him show any sign of aggression.. I miss him so much.

Leila and her 4 silkie chicks... ALL of them were taken by a coon in one night. Roger managed to save 3 chicks and himself.

I'm so glad to find this thread, because I just lost the loveliest hen ever. Tink was part of my first batch of Dominiques (and I'm a convert to the breed now!). She was "travel weary" and wouldn't eat or drink at first. My husband, daughter, and I nursed with with an eyedropper for almost a week before she perked up and started eating and drinking on her own. She was the runt--half the size of the others--but they treated her just like the others, and she didn't expect any special treatment. She ended up reaching her full growth and becoming the lead hen. She would perch on our arms and beg drinks of beer and lemonade. The heatwave we are having here in the Midwest was too much for her, however, and she passed away last week. I miss her every day. RIP, Tink. You made me love chickens!

Lemondrop was my beloved baby red cochin who never had a chance to grow up. She'd jump up in my hand or on my arm and sit w/ me. Poor baby was taken by a dog, i think. A few other chickens came up missing that evening, as well. No body was found. Bluebell was beautiful, fluffy, and blue and as wild as Lemondrop was tame. Her body was never found, either. But both chickens came up missing on the day of dog attacks or days when I had to get dogs out of my yard. And just three days ago, a massecre happened. A dog killed five chickens, and three more are missing. Some of these dead or missing chickens were special ones as well. I just don't know what happens to those we cannot find bodies of. They probably hid and died...I've yet to smell decaying bodies. Or got lost and can't get home? saddening.
