Remind me again... When do you start counting incubation days?

I just learned I candled the last two backwards..

On the blood rind looking one, any advice on how to know if it has visible blood pooling?

It is much better when you candle from the air cell. You see things more clearly. If you candle from the top and it's a distinct ring going around the egg and you see no other veining, then you can be pretty sure that's what you are seeing.

So I read somewhere that you could judge good vs bad eggs on day 14-17 just by weight. Have you experienced this?
Never heard it and I don't weigh. I'm not sure how that could be judged by weight as some eggs may have lost more moisture than others but all could still be alive.

You can definitly tell the difference in weight between a non-fertile egg and one with a decently formed chick inside. The density of the chick is greater than the density of the basic liquid of a non fertile egg and therefore heavier. There is an actual mathamatical formula to show this but I don't remember it off hand. I would not rely on it as a good method to detect "bad" eggs though. Candling is by far the best method.
