The interweb is a wonderful place full of amazing people and information! We're so fortunate to live in a time where we can share and learn with people all over the world.

Unfortunately, there are also a few miscreants on the web that are selfishly and constantly trying to exploit other people for their own benefit.

One of the ways they do this is by trying to compromise and access systems online. We've read recent stories about huge companies like Yahoo, Sony, Equifax, etc.

This week news broke that one of the biggest companies that owns many forums was hacked. Sure, it sucks that people's passwords to forums about jeeps or watches was hacked... but that's not a big deal, right? Well, it is if people are using the same passwords for more important things like bank accounts.

BYC's been very fortunate to have been able to avoid any such data breaches (knock wood), but we still want to STRONGLY encourage users to apply best-practices when creating and maintaining passwords on BYC (and any website).

There are tons of search results for password best practices, but the most important one, especially on BYC, is this:

DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR BYC THAT YOU USE ON OTHER SITES!

The reason this is most important: Even if someone got access to one account, they wouldn't be able to get access to any others!

So, please make sure you're following these best practices and that your BYC password is unique. You can change you BYC password here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/account/security
