I asked my hubby to grab the eggs from the coop while i was wrangling the rooster back in the yard last night. He took them all (i always leave 2 , i asked him to do the same:he) needless to say he took them all. This morning i had a hen come in the house and lay one in front of the fireplace...the other 2 hens laid in the run. I took the 2 eggs from the run and put them in the nesting boxes in the coop ( where they normally lay). Do u think they will lay there again or be permanently afraid to? None of my hens are broody. I have 2 isa and 1 white rock. The isa that laid in front of my fireplace came back in later to check on the egg and moved it out of our eyesight. Thanks in advance 4 all the help :wee

Get some fake ceramic eggs. I draw faces on them to tell them apart from the real eggs, than your girls will always have eggs in the nestboxes. The bonus of ceramic eggs is they can help prevent egg eating as any pecking hens won't hit the jackpot like with real eggs.

The ceramic eggs look and feel just like the real thing. So much so I tried to make am omelet with one once. Putting faces on them is an excellent idea. Also, if your chickens are brown egg layers, buy the white ceramic eggs. If your chickens are white egg layers, buy the brown ones. If you have both, draw on them. You can get quite creative. Better that than trying to make an omelet out of a ceramic egg. I am embarrassed to admit I hit it on the edge of the pan several times before it dawned on me why it wouldn't break. I just thought those oyster shells were really doing their job.

This is so funny, I had a very similar situation this week. My husband went and collected the eggs while I was taking kids to school and brought in my fake eggs, not knowing they were fake. I figured since 2 of my 6 hens were laying regularly in the nest boxes that maybe that didn't need the fake eggs anymore. Wrong! 2 days in a row they played their eggs out in the run. I put the fake eggs back in and poof...they are laying in the nest boxes again! Funny gals!
