So, I took on a 1 year old chicken who had been named by the previous owner. I have no problem with her name, but it sounds very much like my dog's name, and more importantly, since she's become part of the flock here, I kind of think her name does not suit the chicken she has become here with us. I would like to change her name - have a one picked out that I think suits her current personality and place in the pecking order better - but am not sure how the previous owner would feel about it. Also, I am curious to know how others feel about changing a chicken's name.
Would you change an adopted chicken's name?

I have! I bought a pair of MF cochins from a friend and the names didn't fit in with my names. I changed them and he was not offended at all.

Thanks! That makes me feel a lot better. I don't know if it's even worth mentioning to the previous owner.
Personally, the chicken is yours, and you can do whatever you want with her. On the other side, I don't think chickens care if you name them or not. Seriously, they just want to be fed. :) Enjoy your new bird!!

You're right: It shouldn't matter if I rename her. So I did. Like you said, the hen doesn't care what I call her, as long as I call her when there's food to be had.
:)
