reply I got from small hatchery - this isn't universally true, is it?

Aha! Bantamclub.com ... got it... I'll be emailing them for sure. Thanks so much for that.

And yes, I personally believe that Marek's and a few other diseases are easily transferable to backyard flocks and I won't go without them. For example, Marek's travels via nearly microscropic feather dander on the wind. So even if you think you're isolated, you are not. I look at an example of some horse people I knew who were isolated in an extremely remote part location whose horses came down with a wicked disease that most people don't vaccinate for since they're "not showing their horses." Well guess what - the vet said it might have come in on truck tires etc. So when it comes to the major diseases that can cause devastation, you can bet I vaccinate. I don't like treating disease - I like prevention. Besides, the organic program in the US doesn't allow antibiotics, but they allow vaccinations, seems sensible to me to avoid problems before they start. And - lastly, too many people get sick chicks/adult birds and have no idea why and don't realize the real cause. I feel sorry for them - but I won't tell anyone else they have to vaccinate - but I sure am going to do everything I can for mine. I might have to take them to a vet to get all the follow up vaccinations, but so be it, I'll do what I have to.
