When I found out they put an el cheapo thermometer, I tossed it out and got my Flukers and it has been working great since then. It all depends on the temps of the incubator since they do increase by one degree when the embryoes are developing.

Had a good hatch with my Spitz eggs earlier this week.

so it wouldn't hurt the eggs if the reading went up to 100.5? That would just mean I have little ones developing?????

I was told that the auto egg turners also bump the temps up a little...

After my first poor hatch, I decided I better get a digital thermo/hydrometer just to be sure.

I got this one from walmart:

was a total of less than $10, including shipping. There's someone on ebay trying to sell the same thing for twice that, so buy it from walmart if you're going to get one.

It was recommended to me by several people. It seems to work great, though I don't know how accurate it is. Still recommend it, because the bulb thermo is just so hard to read accurately, even if it's displaying accurately...

they say they dont sell them in stores but they do i use two of them righ tnow in my bator and they must be preatty accurate as i have pleanty of eggs ready to hatch and 1 already hatched, i dont know any bator that comes with a accurate thermometer unless you spend like 3 or 4 hundred bucks lol

The trouble with these are that they only register even number degrees for some reason. Mine only goes from 96, 98, 100, to 102 in my Genesis...from the factory the 2 bulbs I was using said 101, the Springfield digital said "100" degrees, not close enough to 102 to change. Somewhat hot for a forced air, I think.
I also adjusted down one click, and watching...the digital just flickered from 98 to 100...the bulbs still reading just a bit over 100, maybe on the top end 101.
Still a little high, even for quail eggs?

I must correct myself...the Springfield "precisetemp" I bought last year does not record the odd degrees...but, I just bought two new ones at the local Walmart store, put a batter in, and behold, they read not only odd degrees now, but tenths!
Everybody run out and get one! About $6.

There is nothing in an egg turner that is capable of raising the temperature.​

Agreed. It DOES generate some heat, don't make the mistake of touching the motor...but the thermostat does not care where the heat is coming from when it adjusts the heat from the main heater.

BUT, I would avoid olacing eggs in close proximity to the little motor just the same...

Follow-up: with the NEW model Srpingfield PreciseTemp device from Walmart, the temp that read 101 on the bulbs now reads 99.5 on the $6 device.
The Genesis was correct from the factory.
Bought two of 'em and they both read the same on Temp, two % difference on the humidity...close enough!
I "calabrated" the cheap bulb thermometer that came with the Genesis (note how many degrees it is off, then carefully peel the glue off the backside of the bulb and slide the glass up to where it would read correct...the temp will go down while you are doing this so, guestimate the distance before hand,I did mone in relation to the little hole punched through the cardboard at the top).
