ReptiPro 5000 & 6000 Hatch-a-long Thread

I won't be candling for a few days, but I have a question. I noticed when turning my eggs this morning, that the shells feel really dry. I've never felt my eggs feel so dry. The humidity in there is always higher than I would normally have my eggs at though. I don't have my new digital read out in there yet, but will be calibrated by 1:00 this afternoon. Is this dry feeling normal? I always wake up to the humidity in the low 50's in the mornings.

it could be the type of egg or the diet the hen was on.. are the air cells looking good?..

It's only day three. Guess I could check those tonight! Wait, it's only day two, I set them on the 18th..I am hoping it won't hurt them to put them back in the turners when I get that new digital read out in. :) Will make it easier to change shelves. I do a pretty good balance job right now..knocking on wood!

I am on day 5, I try to wait till day 10 normally, but am just so excited for the first batch in the new bator I guess. I have been switching shelves every morning and turning about 6 times a day. I have 32 eggs set, though I could probably get another 9 or a dozen on the bottom and make my morning shelf rotation even more fun. Out of 32, so far it looks like 20 going strong, maybe 2 blood rings, but I can only see into 2 of the 4 olive eggers I set and those 2 I can see into are growing.

I am switching shelves the three times a day that I turn. I have always only turned 3 times a day..I hope this is enough for this bator? Like I said, they are going back into the turners today. I can fit my new read out better, on the front like yin.
I just had to go see if by chance there were any air sacs developing . I only saw one I could see, but it looked to have fluid in the bottom floating around?
The others look good, dark yolk that floats slowly up to the top. I always saw that as a viable egg later on. I only candled 5 eggs. Just to peek. I have two of the same Silkie eggs..breeder..set the same day, in a styro bator. Checked those to see if I could see any air sac. Nope. But also the nice look of the yolk slowly going up, not just having the yolk bounce to the top. I've had the humidity around the high 30's low 40's in that bator. I now leave my bators open a while longer than usual when I go to turn. I really believe that the oxygen thought is right. I used to keep the plugs in until lock down. Then I went to no plugs, and now I leave the bators open for a while..to rest from the heat and humidity the three times a day that I turn.
My eggs in that bator are doing great. I will candle these in the new bator on day 5. I can usually see pretty good on that day..plus, I have some pretty dark Olive Eggers in there..and candling that soon is the best time..can see if there are any veins, and sometimes I can see the little eyeball. :D Then, it starts getting dark in there real quick.

Whew! Glad this 6000 came with a cord to take out to the truck when the power goes out. We had a major power outage. Car accident..or truck? Just know that it took out most of the town, and the next one South of us! I kept my eggs at a good temp. Truck ran all day! Power went out at 11:05..came back on at 4:25. Loong time. Didn't have a cord for my other bators, thought I did, but it didn't fit. I put all of the eggs in one bator..then out to the car in the sun. Thankfully, it got up into the 90's today. Even though the digital read out said it was 100 in the bator, the eggs still felt cool. I have some going into lock down tomorrow too. Hope when I candle, they look ok! Then some on Wed. Oh dear!
Pretty sure this outage is going to make the news tonight!

Well, I had to candle to see. Ok, I set these eggs on the 18th, thought I would try candling after what happened today, but I shouldn't have worried too much since I had them plugged into our little SUV. My goodness! I swear they all look to be fertile. I have a lot of light eggs I can see into, and I do have some olive eggs, but, I only had a hard time seeing in that one, but...the air sac looked good..in fact, all of the air sacs are coming along nicely. Unbelievable! Not one clear egg, not one blood ring, all air sacs looking good. What can I say? I'm very happy!

Just one question..is it normal, on just day three, for the embryo and blood vessels to float to the top rather quickly? I was careful to turn it to candle..but I haven't ever seen this before, and I have candled on day three, and having had them in a turner. I hope they are ok after I did that to them!
Loving this bator so far!
